Thank you for continuing to support the GCWA despite the challenging COVID-19 times we have been experiencing. On Saturday 17 October, we will be holding our annual AGM at a Gold Coast venue to be advised. Not only will this include the critical annual announcement of who your committee members will be going forward, but it will also include the exciting launch of the 2020 GCWA Anthology: a compilation of short stories and poems submitted through the competition held earlier in the year. The reason for this email however, apart from providing you with that interesting news, is to alert you to the fact that two roles will become available that are especially important to the committee and the association. Both the President (Marisa Parker) and Secretary (Beverley Streater) are stepping down. It is essential therefore that members think about self-nominating or chatting to another member who they think may fit one of these roles. Please have a look at the AGM tab on the GCWA website to review the President and Secretary roles as there are obviously specific commitments and requirements to undertake with these roles. These are vital appointments for the GCWA Committee and are also enjoyable ones, as you are incredibly involved in directing and participating in the future of the GCWA. Both myself and Beverley are sad to be leaving the executive committee and, after a three-year involvement, life has not only become busier for both of us, but we feel it is also the right time to allow others to step up. The annual AGM also means that ALL committee roles are available for self-nomination even if the current incumbents are continuing. So, please do look at the other role descriptions and if you are interested or have any queries about anything mentioned in this extraordinary notice, please do not hesitate to send an email to either: Marisa Parker – [email protected] or Beverley Streater – [email protected] Sincerely, Marisa Parker President, Gold Coast Writers' Association |
