Naperville Firefighters Respond to Structure Fire At 3:41AM on Mon., June 3, 2024, Naperville's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting an outside smoke investigation in the area of 75th St. and Wehrli Road. ECC dispatched a single engine to the 75th and Wehrli area to investigate. Multiple callers began reporting that they saw fire in the area. Naperville Engine 2 arrived on the scene, reported a fully involved structure fire, and requested ECC upgrade the call to a general alarm at 3:51AM. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders. Engine 2 reported a large, wood-framed, vacant, single-family residence in the 700 block of 24W. 75th St. POSITIVELY NAPERVILLE Burbank high school hosting Hustle for the Heroes 5K to raise money for families of military and first responders VIDEO: A high school in the southwest suburbs is making Chicago Proud by giving back to those who serve the community. WLS-TV ABC 7 CHICAGO Joliet Fire Department Promotes CPR/AED Awareness Week The Joliet Fire Department (JFD) is promoting National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week, June 1-7, spotlighting how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED. A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating or beats ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs. More than 350,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest annually in the United States, but sadly, only 11 percent survive. For every minute without immediate CPR, survival chances drop 10 percent. 90% of cardiac arrest patients who receive a shock from an AED within the first minute survive. According to Fire Chief Jeff Carey, about 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in homes making it more likely, the person trying to be saved is a loved one. VIDEOS: Some evacuees cleared to return home after 8-alarm fire at California construction site A massive fire at a building under construction forced evacuations Monday in Redwood City. More than five hours after the fire started firefighters were able to contain the fire to the originating structure, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Although "under control," the area is in a 24-hour fire watch. No injuries have been reported in the blaze, which also sparked an air quality advisory -- wind was expected to push smoke across the peninsula and into San Jose. Aerial coverage from NBC Bay Area's SkyRanger on Monday afternoon showed the construction site gutted after flames ripped through the building. The fire was first reported at 10:15 a.m. on the 2700 block of Middlefield Road and garnered an eight-alarm response, firefighters said. Ground for the new fire station was broken Monday in a ceremony at the site, which is located adjacent to the Charlotte Fire Department's training center on Shopton Road. The $16 million project will build a new 14,000-square-foot, three-bay, two-story, all-electric firehouse. The city of Charlotte calls it the Southeast's first all-electric firehouse and will feature the first all-electric North American style fire engine. "We do a lot of things already to help with sustainability," Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said. "We have idle reduction procedures already on our current fire trucks, and so we're going to continue to do that path." WCNC-TV NBC 36 CHARLOTTE Near tragedy guides Kansas firefighter to make fire trucks VIDEO: Making things is a passion of Greg Blanchat. But instead of making art, he makes fire trucks. Blanchat turned a near tragedy into a passion to save lives. "When you suit up, when you snap in, you really feel it. Like I say, ‘Fire is a living, breathing thing,' and I really think it can think too," said Blanchat. Roaring flames and billowing smoke were seen from miles around. "We were up on a hill, most of us watching it and looking down on it, and we backed up because it was incredibly hot," said Stan May, a spectator and retired 30-year firefighter. It wasn't a wildfire. It was an experiment. "It's amazing he was able to put it out that fast dealing with that kind of heat," said May. It was performed by Blanchat. "Paper tells you one thing, live tells you if it really works," he said. KSNW-TV NBC 3 WICHITA Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts in region that hasn't seen eruption since 1974 VIDEO/PHOTOS: Officials have started to lower alert levels within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park after the Kilauea volcano began to erupt early Monday morning in an area that hasn't seen an eruption in nearly 50 years. According to an alert from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), the Volcano Alert Level for ground-based hazards was raised from watch to warning, and the Aviation Color Code was changed from orange to red after the new eruption began around 12:30 a.m. local time (6:30 a.m. ET). About 8:30 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET), the USGS lowered the Volcano Alert Level to a watch and the Aviation Color Code to orange. Scientists said the remote nature and low volume of the eruption prompted a lowering of alerts. FOX WEATHER PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
