| Rockford Fire Department Holds Explorer-Cadet Field Training Day VIDEO/PHOTO: Aspiring firefighters participate in a hands-on firefighting skills event hosted by area and state firefighters. On Saturday, curious trainees ages 15 to 19 gather at the Fire Station #6 & Training Academy, 3329 W. State Street, to learn the first steps in becoming a firefighter. The Rockford Fire Department and the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) partnered to create an abbreviated experience of the IFSI Cornerstone Training program. "This is just a taste of the things that we do on an everyday basis," Rockford Fire Department recruiter, Bo Chaney says. "In Rockford, we run a little bit different. When we have our meetings on Monday nights for the first 30 minutes we'll do mentoring. So we're adding a little bit of that into it, then after than they do all the fire skills that we do." WIFR-TV CBS 23 ROCKFORD Oak Brook family displaced after Mother's Day blaze leaves home uninhabitable PHOTO: A family in Oak Brook is displaced after a fire ripped through their home on Mother's Day. The fire happened just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Saddlebrook Drive. Fire crews arrived less than five minutes after being notified. When they arrived at the home, firefighters saw flames coming from a second-floor window, according to the Oak Brook Fire Department. Firefighters searched the home for any residents inside while encountering heavy smoke and flames as they reached the second floor, officials said. The home was found to have been evacuated. However, one person was assisted in the first floor entryway and taken to the paramedics for further evaluation. | VIDEO: Minnesota home deemed total loss after massive fire A family was able to escape a destructive blaze that took down their home in Orono on Sunday. Three family members were inside the home when the fire began just before 7 p.m. All of them were able to safely escape the burning structure along with the family dog, an emergency responder on the scene told KARE 11. Long Lake Fire Chief Mike Heiland said it appears the blaze began in the garage of the home, but at this time a cause remains uncertain. The fire was massive - images from Sky 11 show flames lighting up the night sky for quite a distance. At least nine departments responded to the scene in Orono, but they were unable to save the home. It was reduced to rubble and is a total loss. KARE-TV NBC 11 MINNEAPOLIS Maryland fire company's new engine damaged in crash on interstate, eight members taken to Shock Trauma PHOTOS: Friday night's crash on Interstate 95 in the White Marsh area resulted in a brand new fire engine sustaining damage and eight members from Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company being injured. At around 9:00 p.m. on May 10, units responded to southbound I-95 in White Marsh for a reported medical emergency. Shortly after arriving on the scene, Kingsville VFC's new fire engine and another squad vehicle were both struck by another vehicle causing significant damage to both pieces of equipment. The crash resulted in two individuals in the other vehicle becoming trapped. The two patients were freed and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Eight members of Kingsville VFC were taken to Shock Trauma. All members have since been released and are doing well, according to Kingsville VFC. Reece Blake was a recruit in a class, training to become a SWAT medic in Miami. SWAT medics respond to incidents involving police officers in moments of crisis. On March 5th, Reece was running from Lummus Park to Virginia Key as part of a training day when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. "The last thing I remember was running past Fire Station 4 in Brickell," Reece recalled Wednesday. Seven fellow Miami firefighters and 7 Miami Police officers rushed to provide lifesaving aid seconds after he collapsed. Miami Police Officer Pedro Julio Moreno was one of the first to jump into action. "I started doing compressions. You're supposed to do 30 compressions and two breaths. I was doing like 50 or 60 nonstop," Moreno said. WTVJ-TV NBC 6 MIAMI Firefighters in one Colorado city propose plan to shift ambulance services VIDEO: The Colorado Springs Fire Department is working to bring the responsibility of ambulance services to them, instead of relying primarily on private companies. This is something Fire Chief Randy Royal and Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade have said has been in the works for a while. On social media, CSFD posted a statement from Chief Royal announcing that they will go before City Council on Monday to present their proposal. It is for an Emergency Services Enterprise that would bring the responsibility of ambulance transport services to the fire department. Mayor Mobolade has said before that Colorado Springs is one of very few cities of its size to not already have this system.
