Buffalo Grove Firefighters Rescue Woman Found Trapped Under Her Own Vehicle Police and firefighter/paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 9:27 a.m. Friday July 17, 2020 to a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at Arlington Heights Road and Lake Cook Road in Buffalo Grove. Firefighter/paramedics were updated that a woman was found trapped under her own vehicle. Buffalo Grove Fire Department Ambulance 25's crew confirmed that a woman was trapped, and the emergency call was upgraded to an Entrapment Rescue Response, which bring extra equipment and personnel for extrication operation and a stand-by paramedic crew in case of injury during the work at the scene. The woman was treated for pain by paramedics while she was still trapped, and while the extrication was underway. Extrication was completed within 10 or 11 minutes. Firefighters used cribbing to stabilize her vehicle while the vehicle was lifted with rescue airbags. THE CARDINAL New ambulance makes for better-equipped Sheridan Fire Department The Sheridan Fire Department is now even better equipped to serve the surrounding communities with the purchase of a state-of-the-art ambulance. It was purchased on June 1 and is planned to be put into service on August 1. The ambulance, a 2020 model built by Horton Ambulance from Grove City, Ohio, and purchased from Foster's Coach Sales in Sterling for $304,000, features a smoother ride and bigger box, which allows more storage. Additionally, the rig has a powered combo system in which the cot can be unloaded and loaded by a touch of a button, special cabinets, stripping and lighting on the exterior doors. "The maintenance on the older (2002) ambulance was a big factor," said Sheridan Fire Chief Kurt Tirevold. "It's going on 19 years old now, and it was starting to nickle and dime us to death with the upkeep of it. Sailors who fought USS Bonhomme Richard fire test positive for coronavirus, Navy confirms At least two sailors who helped fight an aggressive fire that raged on for days aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard last week off the coast of San Diego have since tested positive for the coronavirus, U.S. Navy officials confirmed on Friday. The two sailors are crew members on the USS San Diego, an amphibious transport dock, that pulled up alongside the Bonhomme Richard to help with firefighting efforts as the warship continued to burn for more than four days in the San Diego Bay. At least 27 people who have come in contact with them have begun to quarantine. According to sailors who spoke to The San Diego Tribune on condition of anonymity, most of the firefighting equipment aboard the Bonhomme Richard was destroyed, and, sailors responding from neighboring ships, therefore, swapped and shared masks and gloves as the "chaotic" scene unfolded. FOX NEWS Researchers Identify Six Distinct Symptom Cluster 'types' of COVID-19 Analysis of data from the COVID Symptom Study app, led by researchers from King's College London, reveals that there are six distinct ‘types' of COVID-19, each distinguished by a particular cluster of symptoms. Moreover, the team found that these types differed in the severity of the disease and the need for respiratory support during hospitalisation. The findings have major implications for clinical management of COVID-19, and could help doctors predict who is most at risk and likely to need hospital care in a second wave of coronavirus infections. Although continuous cough, fever and loss of smell (anosmia) are usually highlighted as the three key symptoms of COVID-19, data gathered from app users shows that people can experience a wide range of different symptoms including headaches, muscle pains, fatigue, diarrhea, confusion, loss of appetite, shortness of breath and more. The progression and outcomes also vary significantly between people, ranging from mild flu-like symptoms or a simple rash to severe or fatal disease. TECHNOLOGY NETWORKS VIDEO: Maine firefighters extinguish car fire Maine caught dramatic video of a car on fire in Portland. All occupants were able to get out safely. The car fire happened Sunday night on Congress Street near State Street. A witness told the people in the car that is was smoking when it pulled up to a stoplight. The Portland Fire Department arrived to put out the flames. Police blocked off Longfellow Square. NEWS CENTER MAINE Massachusetts fire department's new rescue boat a welcome addition Fire Captain Frank O'Reagan says a rather bizarre incident just over a month ago involving a motorcyclist — who ended up badly injured on the banks of the Taunton River — was all the justification he needed that the recent acquisition of a new fire and rescue boat was worth the investment. "We've already saved someone, so in my eyes it's already paid for itself," said O'Reagan, who has been training other firefighters how to operate and take full advantage of his department's new high-speed rescue boat. It was after 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, when the motorcyclist plummeted into the Taunton River. After driving eastbound across Veterans Memorial Bridge from Somerset to Fall River, authorities say his motorcycle struck the guardrail where the bridge road veers right onto the southbound on-ramp for routes 138 and 79. The unidentified operator managed to swim or drag himself to the rocky shore that slopes down from the street-level Route 79 South roadway, which runs beneath the 138 and 79 southbound onramp.
