Garage Fire Damages Home In Naperville A garage fire caused smoke damage to a home, displacing a family in the 3000 block of Kingbird Court in Naperville Thursday night. A resident told fire officials they smelled smoke after a smoke detector was triggered just before 9 p.m. Fire trucks arrived at the scene shortly after and were able to put out the blaze in 10 minutes. Fire crews continued to perform smoke removal and put out any hidden fires that may have extended into the two-story home. All residents were able to safely escape the blaze, but as of Friday morning, a cat was still "unaccounted for," according to a news release from Naperville Fire Department. Fire officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation, but added that it does not seem to be suspicious. NAPERVILLE PATCH Fallen tree branch sparks fire at Belleville home A fallen tree branch is being blamed for sparking a fire in Belleville early Friday morning. Jackson said the family then called 911 and firefighters along with Ameren crews came to investigate. Ameren said the family is lucky that no one was injured, and more damage was not done. "Physically we're all okay, they're all a little startled, my kids, my three kids they're a little startled, I'm startled, but physically everybody's fine," said Jackson. KMOV-TV CBS 4 ST. Texas firefighters struggle against flames, smoke, natural gas in vacant apartment building VIDEO: Flames, smoke and natural gas worked together to create a huge challenge for San Antonio firefighters early Friday morning. They were called to the 400 block of Gillmore around 5:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from a vacant building at the Preserve at the Port apartments. "It did collapse. No injuries to our firefighters. Nobody has been reported missing or anything," said Joseph Arrington, a spokesman for the San Antonio Fire Department. Firefighters spent more than an hour pouring water on the flames both from the ground and from an aerial ladder truck. Even after they knocked down the main portion of the fire, stubborn flames refused to die. Arrington said there was natural gas coming from an underground pipe that was continuing to fuel the fire. Fire crews had to wait for CPS Energy workers to dig up the pipeline and stop the leak. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO New tool gives Alabama firefighters a better look at intubating patients VIDEO: Firefighters in Mobile are getting new equipment that could help save lives. Mobile Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Steven Millhouse explained the new device. He said, "Video laryngoscope. We use it for intubations in the field which would allow us to keep an airway open." Millhouse intubated a practice dummy while telling us about the new equipment. It took him about 20 seconds. The camera gives paramedics a better view of vocal cords which they have to see to make sure they're in the right place. Millhouse said, "We don't want to go too deep – be in the wrong area right mainstem, or go into the esophagus which would have us pushing air into the stomach." The device records video. It's a tool that could potentially help healthcare workers and patients. Millhouse said, "We can attach it to our patient care reports. We can share it with the hospital staff as well." His father, Neil Handler, posted the photos on a GoFundMe page. "The first time we saw these nameless heroes was on the news reels as they were pulling my boy out of the rubble," Neil Handler wrote. "Now with God's grace we stand next to each other sharing thanks and hope." Dramatic footage showed the 15-year-old being pulled out of the rubble of the beachfront condo building. His mother, 54-year-old Stacie Fang, was killed in the collapse and the first victim to be identified. WTVJ-TV NBC 6 MIAMI Budget crisis forcing 9/11 Museum in New York to scale back plans for 20th anniversary The 9/11 Museum is dropping plans for special exhibitions to mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks this fall, because of a massive budget crisis. "I see the memorial as a cemetery. The names on those brass plates are akin to a headstone. Where the name appears, sorry, is where they fell." said Paul Remenschneider. For Remenschneider, the pain of 9/11 is as though it happened yesterday. His uncle Christopher Wodenshek was killed in the terror attack. "The feelings of emptiness. That void that it creates, created from those attacks, is still there," Remenschneider says. Remenschneider says he does not understand why there is a current controversy surrounding the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The pandemic created a budget crisis for the nonprofit that included massive layoffs and furloughs. WNYW-TV FOX 5 NEW YORK PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
