View email online | | | | | Jun 30, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening Professor Chris Whitty has spoken ... and that’s good enough for me! The Government’s Chief Medical Officer (next slide, please) has said there is no reason not to release restrictions on our everyday lives as our hospitals, while extremely busy, are not in danger of collapse because of the number of Covid cases. This from the most cautious of men. And rightly so as the decisions made by Prof Whitty and his colleagues have literally been a matter of life and death. So if he believes that opening up society on July 19 is the right thing to do, there are few who would dispute that. He does, however, offer a note of caution for later in the year when the winter months are likely to see a rise in cases and more pressure on the NHS. But let’s cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, we all need to have the option of greater freedoms - whether we choose to use them or not. By winter the entire population will be vaccinated and booster jabs may even be on the way. For now, let’s just enjoy the sun and a bit more freedom.
