People living in more disadvantaged areas have less chance of survival 5 years after a cancer diagnosis than those in more advantaged areas, according to research by Cancer Council Victoria, University of Melbourne and Monash University.

The Australian Government has provided $5M to ASPiRATION, the first genomic profiling research project for patients with lung cancer in Australia. A study in the UK shows the risk of lung cancer is greatly reduced by quitting smoking.

The Institute of Cancer Research in the UK has released an analysis of cancer drug development showing that the more revolutionary the drug, the longer it takes to reach patients. It is believed that stakeholders involved in the drug development process are increasingly risk adverse.
