| | CLIMATE ARTICLE Books We’re Reading on Climate
It can be overwhelming to think about climate change: its vast universe of causes and effects, manifestations and consequences, what-ifs and could have beens. Luckily, many of the world’s best minds and foremost experts have put their skills and talents to this critical challenge, resulting in a body of literature as broad as the issue itself. Here’s a compilation of our favorite books about climate: up-close looks at communities impacted by warming, riveting stories that center the natural world, and bold, comprehensive solutions. If understanding an issue is the first step to solving it, read a few of these works, then join us March 3 – 7 in Miami Beach for Aspen Ideas: Climate 2022 — passes are on sale now. |

In the 1950s and ’60s, mental health providers used psychedelics to help patients open up about difficult memories. Then the drugs were banned — but now there’s a resurgence. Psychedelics like MDMA, psilocybin, and ketamine are being studied as solutions for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Findings show that drugs like MDMA are especially useful in the context of healing from trauma. Rachel Yehuda, director of the Center for Psychedelic Psychotherapy and Trauma Research, and Gita Vaid, a psychologist and psychoanalyst who researches ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, discuss psychedelic therapies with Alison Snyder of Axios. | | | PHILANTHROPY ARTICLE It’s Time to Change How Philanthropies Collaborate
The philanthropic sector often engages in collaborative problem-solving with partners that are aligned in ideology and priorities. However, during a time when society seems more divided than ever and the public is highly optimistic about organizations’ ability to strengthen the nation’s social fabric, perhaps it’s time to redefine collaboration as working with and across a diverse array of organizations. In a recent op-ed published by Fortune magazine, Walton Family Foundation Executive Director Caryl M. Stern calls on philanthropies to collaborate not only with those with whom they share common ground but with an eye toward finding commonsolutions. Read more about the importance of focusing on collective goals and the Walton Family Foundation’s commitment to bringing people together to create lasting change. Read |
