Hi John! This week I want to talk about staying calm and finding the tools to help yourself do that. Onto that in a moment... In this week's email: βCartoon: Pride x Seggsy Sunday π³οΈβπ Dad Jokes: Snip snip βοΈ Video: Two for you! βοΈ Post: A real tearjerker π₯Ή Original: The original of one of my bestselling prints is now available! I'd hurry if I were you... ππ¨ |
| Seggsy Sunday and Pride Month combine to bring you this cartoon. Many LGBTQIA friends and followers requested representation in my seggsy Sunday cartoons. But I was reluctant because I feel their intimate sexual lives is NOT my lane... I also shared some personal things about my own experiences and am so grateful for your supportive comments. |

| This is probably the most heartwarming post I've ever shared... Earlier this week, I asked you all to write a message for someone struggling this month. I added your responses to a post. Click here to see it. I hope it warms your heart as it did mine. |
| Recently, when Lisa and I were walking through the forest, I realized that I felt peaceful. It was just a quiet observation. This began a discussion about the benefits of creating a grounding routine. A few years ago, when I decided to get serious about NakedPastor as a brand, I was experiencing a ton of stress about it. Even up to, say, last year, I was so anxious about the struggle to make what I do provide a living. I was just soooooo stressed out all the time. I decided that even though I was committed to continuing what I do as a cartoonist, artist, writer, speaker, and community facilitator, I had to figure out a way to become more βZenβ about it. (Thatβs what I call itβ¦ βzenββ¦ you knowβ¦ relaxed and poised and serene.) This all went together with my concern for my health overall. Not just mental, spiritual, social, and financial, but physical too. So I started a daily regimen: - Contemplative reading first thing in the morning and writing in my journal. - Breathing exercises and stretching. - Pushups, pullups, and lifting weights. - Running and rucking. - Cold showers and forest bathing. - Intermittent fasting. - Restricting doom scrolling Etcetera etcetera... I started all this with the intention of becoming more βzenβ. And it dawned on me yesterday that itβs actually working! Iβm not stressed out. Business is up and down, sometimes way down, and it would have freaked me out even just last year and I wouldβve made life miserable for myself and those around me. Nowβ¦ I experience equanimity and calmness. All day long. So I just wanted to encourage you. Iβm nobody special. Iβm just a normal guy with normal struggles. But I employ certain disciplines to improve my life. And even though I never saw immediate results at the time, I now know, in hindsight, that they actually work! Do you have a routine that helps you stay zen? |
| βThere are an infinite number of ways to be queer and trans, and my story speaks to only one. As I say later in these pages, we are all but a spec in this universe, and I hope that in speaking my truth I have added yet another speck to dispel the constant misinformation around queer and trans lives. If you havenβt already, I urge you to seek out many other vast and varying narratives from LGBTQ+ writers, activists, and individuals. The movement for trans liberation affects us all.β I appreciate the way he said thatβ¦ βThe movement for trans liberation affects us all.β Because thatβs what I have believed and what I have said in response to people who wish to convert or marginalize queer and trans people. When they ask me, βWhy do you focus so much on this issue?β Thatβs why! Itβs because it affects us all. This is the line, it seems, where the battle is being drawn. Itβs not a marginal issue, but a central one. These quotes are from Elliot Page, Pageboy: A Memoir. I just got this book in the mail and canβt wait to read it.

| I hope that you're having a good Pride Month. Whether you are queer identifying or using this time to learn how to be a better ally, this is a time to embrace authenticity and kindness. If you are in need of resources for LGBTQ Christians, I wrote this blog that might help you. Much love, my friends! David
