Today we’re celebrating our brave friends who have chosen to come as they are, despite living in a culture that fosters fear, hate, violence and cruelty against the trans community. I am committed to making art that celebrates and uplifts my trans friends so they feel empowered and seen, not just today but every day.

I drew this cartoon especially for today. If we could all be together, this is what it would look like: a big trans party with all of us supporting and cheering on our trans friends, exactly as they deserve.

It is a revolutionary act to be yourself. To embrace who you are and celebrate it. And to celebrate those around you who do the same. For the trans community, this is not always easy.

Did you know that in 2022, there are 7 states in the USA that have proposed bills that would limit the rights of trans and non-binary youth? The rights of trans people are under attack, we can’t sit around and watch any longer.

3 things you can do today to help with trans visibility:

Ask for and use the correct pronouns when talking to a trans person.
Read up on trans history and current issues affecting trans people.
Reach out to trans people in your community to make sure they feel seen, heard, and loved

Whenever I post cartoons like this one where Jesus is hanging out with a trans sheep, there are people who do mental gymnastics to oppose it. If this is the backlash I get for posting a trans-inclusive cartoon, I can’t imagine the backlash my trans friends experience on a daily basis.

I say no to backlash, bullying, and exclusion! This is more like it. Today is the day to celebrate, love and be grateful for the trans people in your lives so we can start making the world a safer and more inclusive place for them every day.
