| When a patient arrived for a CT scan at the Iowa City VA hospital last year, radiology technologist Jeff Dettbarn said he noticed something amiss: the doctor's order for the test had been canceled. At VA hospitals across the country, more than 250,000 of radiology orders have been canceled since 2016 in a rush to clear out overdue orders for exams such as CT scans and MRIs, raising questions about whether correct procedures were followed to ensure veterans didnât still need the exams. The VA inspector general is now investigating cancellations at nine agency hospitals, including in Iowa City.
