| I've heard another church just went through a massive crisis. I'm hearing rumors that it probably won't survive. I don't like seeing churches fail. I'd rather they succeed... if they are healthy communities... or trying to be. But what I'm hearing is that spiritual abuse, shaming, guilt-tripping, fear-mongering, money-grubbing, ridiculous charismatic stuff... was all going on. It wasn't a matter of if but when. When I cartoon and write and talk about spiritual abuse, the number of people who come out of hiding to share their stories is staggering. I can't understand people who think it's rare. I can't understand people who think it should be kept secret. The number of wounded survivors out there is far more than we hear about. I'm grateful for those who are sharing their stories. But I also understand those who would rather keep their secret than suffer under the lack of empathy of those who just don't get it. If you have suffered from spiritual abuse... or are... I'm here for you as well as so many other people. |
