Hi John!

Yep. I Got COVID But I'm on YouTube!

I worked so hard to avoid it. Made it over 2 years. Then I got it! And I feel terrible.

How do hermits get COVID???

Well, I'm not literally a hermit. I do see people... family and friends.

However, I'm on YouTube and I want to tell you about my ideas for it that I think you'll love.

BUT FIRST...

In this week's email:

  • Cartoon of The Week: It's about costumes!
  • Dad Jokes: It's about ex's.
  • Painting: It's about cardinals.
  • Quotes: It's about grief
  • Watch Longer Vids: It's about YouTube!

Okay, here we go.

CARTOON OF THE WEEK

I Had To Put This On

I'm sure we all know what it feels like to have to be someone other than your authentic self in order to be accepted.

There are a couple of themes here. One is that an LGBTQIA+ sheep has to wear a white fleece in order to belong. That is, hide their identity and stay in the closet. Then there's Jesus who has to clothe himself as a Western Jesus in order to be accepted.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

My wife gets really angry when I introduce her as my ex-girlfriend.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Meet My Intelligent Westie, Sophie!

Because of what's going on in the world, and especially in the USA right now, I've decided to focus on what I think is the root of the problem: men assuming authority over women's lives and bodies.

THE LOST TRANS SHEEP

Wow!

This cartoon was shared on Twitter and it went viral over there. So many people love it.

Instagram also went pretty crazy over it... even though it's an older one.

But they loved it even more when I explained I added more pronoun options for your print.

So now you can order the one that applies to you or to the loved one your gifting it to.

Click the link below to see all the possible pronoun options I have so far!

I totally support and protect trans people!

ORIGINAL PAINTING OF THE WEEK

i will never not miss you

I WILL NEVER NOT MISS  YOU

This is an Original Acrylic and Ink painting on a larger gallery wrapped canvas, measuring 15"x30"x2". Sides are painted, so it's ready to hang.

So... as you may know, I lost my brother in 2016 when he decided to leave us. Even though it's 6 years later, I'm process the grief again, this time at a deeper level.

I'm in Canada, and there is a belief here held by some that a red cardinal showing up in your lawn is a sign that your lost loved one is letting you know they're okay.

Now, I don't believe this to be true. BUT... a red cardinal shows up every year at around this time.

So I decided to express my grief, my emotions, onto a large and colorful canvas. Here we see the red cardinal, alone but free.

Is this Mark? It's my expression of my love and grief for Mark.

Maybe you lost someone and love this painting as an expression of your own grief. I want someone else to own this.

The price is also symbolic. A memory. A memorial. Thanks for listening!

COVID AND YOUTUBE!

Yes I'm on YouTube!

I've been on Youtube since 2010 I believe.

I haven't paid the attention to it that I should.

But now, with the volatility of all social media platforms, it seems YouTube is one of the most constant and predictable.

Plus... I can do longer videos there.

And some people have been asking for that.

So I have a couple ideas up my sleeve.

1. I'm going to go through some silly Christian subreddits and comment on them on the fly. I won't prepare. I'll just jump in and record my screen and myself at the same time and comment on what we're looking at.

2. I'm thinking of offering like a 5 minute free "listening" session with me where one of my followers can share with us one of the biggest challenges they're facing right now. It could be to do with deconstruction, or some theology, or the church, or sexuality, or relationships, or whatever. They'll agree to be recorded... audio and visual... and we'll be as honest as we dare.

What do you think?

Any other ideas? I'm up for this and I appreciate your input so much.

OH!!!! And PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!! Thank you with hearts!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

I'm reading Pulitzer Prize Winner Kathryn Schulz's new book... Lost & Found. A Memoir

She writes about the loss of her father and the nature of grief. I found it helpful and humorous and maybe you will too:

"Popular wisdom will tell you that it (grief) comes in stages-- denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance-- and that maybe true. But the Paleozoic era also came in stages-- Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian-- and it lasted two hundred and ninety million years."

In other words, grief is grief and when given space to happen can be very unpredictable and maybe even long!

Okay. So I JUST applied this to myself and my grief over Mark.

BEFORE YOU SAY GOODBYE...

I'm vaccinated so I'm hoping this will speed by quickly.

But I do want to say, being sentimental right now, that I love you all very much and am glad you are in my life and you graciously allow me in yours.

I'm always happy to hear from you. And now that I think we have my email fixed, you might actually get my responses that I've been writing but getting lost in outer space!

Much love!

David
