How to Plan a Picnic Hike! See how to to convert sandwiches . . . into wraps!
Merri Ann and I love to hike. Last night, we picked a trail high above Spenser, Idaho not far from the Continental Divide. We drove to the end of the road and then hiked up the canyon until we got above the trees and could see over the ranges to the west. It was magnificent and . . . lonely country. Three times on the way out, we saw elk. Merri Ann has a coated plastic tarp that we use for a picnic blanket. Instead of sandwiches, we pack wraps. We keep the perishables cool with "Blue Ice" packs. We have plenty of iced water in insulated metal canteens.
Consider taking these: Crackers and cheese. I'll choose a wax enclosed Gouda. The wax pack will protect it from rough handling and bacteria. Either a pasta or a potato salad. The mayonnaise will be safe as longs as we keep the bags cold. Sandwich wraps. Unlike bread, the tortillas can take a beating. Fruit, either apples or oranges. Rice Krispie treats.
