We'll have more information for you as the sun rises and we can see damage clearly.
with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editorHurricane Ida marched through southeast Louisiana on Sunday night, causing devastation on the coast and major damage further inland. It's tough to assess the damage in the Baton Rouge area because the worst of the storm hit here well after nightfall. Our reporters will be out at first light assessing the damage. Here's what we know happened last night: - At least one death had been confirmed when a tree fell on a house in Ascension Parish
- Most homes and businesses were without power.
- Major roads were closed, including I-10, Bluebonnet, and Acadian.
- As the storm slowed down, it also shifted to the east. That spared the western part of our region the worst, but left those to the east, like those in Tangipahoa and parts of Livingston Parish, worried about a "worst case scenario."
We'll have a lot more on Ida's impacts today. Check theadvocate.com for the latest. Thank you for reading, and stay safe. |
