More than 1300 people walked 20 miles (32 kilometres) around Lake Burley Griffin, reported The Canberra Times on this day in 1968. The walk accumulated an estimated 1500 blisters and raised at least $15,000 for the Narrabundah Marymead Children's Centre. Still located in Narrabundah, Marymead is a community-based not-for-profit organisation. It provides a range of high-quality, innovative support services to children, young people and their families.
