The theft happened at approximately 9:50 p.m. Thursday near 29th and Dauphin streets in Strawberry Mansion. According to police, a mother was traveling with her three kids when she stopped to visit the father of two of her children at a pizza shop, leaving the car running with the children inside. According to police, both the mother and father ran after the car and pulled Hood out of the driver's seat, when he was stopped by traffic. The alleged carjacker assaulted the dad and fled, according to police, but was stopped by a larger crowd who kicked and punched him repeatedly. The assault continued until police arrived. Philadelphia Police Homicide Captain Jason Smith says the father and Hood got into an altercation. "Hood managed to break free from the father and fled across 29th Street. It was at this time that a crowd of individuals stopped Mr. Hood and forced him to the ground," Smith said. "The crowd kicked and punched Mr. Hood until the arrival of responding police. At some point Mr. Hood became unresponsive." Police are reviewing video posted on Instagram and surveillance video from the scene to see exactly how large the crowd was and they are working to identify the people who took part in the beating. "The video is very clear," Smith said. He then urged the people involved to come forward. "I think it's a much better idea to make contact with us then us with them," he said. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine Hood's cause of death and run tests to see if he had drugs in his system. Hood had a lengthy arrest record with 24 arrests - the last one dated in 2007. The mother of the kids left in the vehicle could also face charges for leaving them in a running car. Police say the parents have cooperated and were questioned by detectives then released. DearWebby's Tech Support Pits From: --- Re: No Question today Dear Webby, Dear --- Have FUN! Thanks to Mike for this: I tried this with my wife and it backfired... I guess it's only true with men. Getting rid of a man without hurting his masculinity is a problem. "Get out" and "I never want to see you again" might sound like a challenge. If you want to get rid of a man, I suggest saying, "I love you... I want to marry you... I want to communicate with you... I want to have your children." Sometimes they leave skid marks. She began undressing nervously, preparing herself for the upcoming examination. Just as she draped the last of her garments over the back of a chair, a light rap sounded on the door and the doctor walked in. Coming to an abrupt halt, he looked his patient up and down carefully. "Miss Jones," he said, "it seems quite obvious that until today you have never had an eye exam." ___________________________________________________ While hiking in the mountains one day I came across a gorgeous gorge that I thought was an echo canyon. I shouted, "Hello there." But the response sounded to me like, "Hello where?" I tried again. "How do you do?" A moment later the report came back sounding like, "How do I do what?" Baffled and amused I decided to give it the ultimate test. "You're not really an echo canyon, are you?" The response from the big ditch confirmed my suspicions. "Brilliant deduction, Einstein." __________________________________________________ Ophelia Dingbatter's NewsNo sermon and not suitable for church, just jokes and fun for grownups. He apologized, they made up. However, from time to time, my Mom mentioned what he had done. "Honey," my Dad finally said one day, "why do you keep bringing that up? I thought your policy was 'forgive and forget.'" "It is," she said. "I just don't want you to forget what I've forgiven and forgotten." ___________________________________________________ Today, July 15 in 1099 Jerusalem fell to the Crusaders. 1410 Poles and Lithuanians defeated the Teutonic knights at Tannenburg, Prussia. 1789 The electors of Paris set up a "Commune" to live without the authority of the government. 1806 Lieutenant Zebulon Pike began his western expedition from Fort Belle Fountaine, near St. Louis, MO. 1813 Napoleon Bonaparte's representatives met with the Allies in Prague to discuss peace terms. 1834 Lord Napier of England arrived in Macao, China as the first chief superintendent of trade. 1870 Georgia became the last of the Confederate states to be readmitted to the Union. 1885 In New York, the Niagara Reservation State Park opened. 1888 "Printers' Ink" was first sold. 1895 Ex-prime minister of Bulgaria, Stephen Stambulov, was murdered by Macedonian rebels. 1901 Over 74,000 Pittsburgh steel workers went on strike. 1904 The first Buddhist temple in the U.S. was established in Los Angeles, CA. 1916 In Seattle, WA, Pacific Aero Products was incorporated by William Boeing.
