French energy giant Total signs groundbreaking deal with Iran French energy giant Total S.A. recently signed a groundbreaking deal to develop Phase 11 of the South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf, becoming the first major oil and gas Company to return to Iran's market after the conclusion of the nuclear deal with six world powers. This deal shows the huge potential of the Iranian oil and gas sector. Iran sits on the third largest oilfield in the world and the second largest in natural gas. The demand for natural resources will be a huge export market for Teheran and offshore exploration will demand its own new ships, platforms and services. International banks enter Iranian market After the previous announcement of one of Austria’s biggest banks Oberbank, allocating a € 1 billion line of credit to finance investment projects in Iran, Croatia now announces an agreement with Iran on banking and payment arrangements. The approach by more and more international banks to enter the Iran market, is a direct result of the growing trade with Iran after the lifting of sanctions early 2016 and shows that Iran is making good steps to simplify and improve international bank transfers.
