Three major HSE research reports have been published in the last 12 months that investigate workplace noise and vibration problems. These research reports are listed below: RR1182 provides a review of âHand-arm vibration and noise emissions of battery powered tools compared with equivalent traditionally powered toolsâ. Useful for anyone looking at battery powered tools. RR1183 looks at âChainsawâs noise information from suppliers: usefulness for tool selection and risk assessment to protect workersâ. Useful for anyone in the agricultural or horticultural industry. RR1193 looks at âStatic concrete mixer cleaning. Establishing alternative methods for control of harmful noise and hand-arm vibration exposuresâ. Useful to those involved in the mineral products and concrete industry. All three reports can be found on the HSE website. There is also industry guidance from the Mineral Products Association, on the control of health risks from static concrete mixers. This guidance can be found in the MPA guide to cleaning concrete pan mixers (.pdf). In addition to these major reports, HSE also put a spotlight on the work done by our scientists on the benefits of selecting suitable grinding discs and backing pads when using angle grinders, which can be found in the 2023 science review (.pdf). Are you aged between 30 and 50 and have suspected noise-induced hearing loss or noise exposure? HSE is seeking participants to take part in our noise exposure study. The study aims to assess if we can see the consequences of a personâs noise exposure in MRI scans of their brain and nerves.⯠â¯Â Participants will be invited to attend a two hour screening session, where someone will measure your hearing and ask you questions about your past noise exposure. If eligible, we will invite you to come back and have an MRI scan, which will last approximately 1.5 hours.  Sessions will take place at the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre in Nottingham. Participants of the study will be paid an inconvenience allowance of £10 per hour and will also be reimbursed up to £15 per appointment for travel costs.  For more information please complete our survey or contact us via email. |
