In a summer full of big releases, two of the most exciting are “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie.” They both feature Jewish main characters: physicist Robert Oppenheimer and Barbie, named for the daughter of the doll’s Jewish creator. I’ll be looking at the real-life history of both characters, how they’re portrayed in the films, and what their box office returns portend for the future of Jewish cinema. All that — and so much more — is headed your way exclusively at the Forward. I’m able to cover the latest and greatest of Jewish arts and culture, along with my colleagues Mira and Irene and dozens of contributors, thanks to the generosity of our donors. Your gift supports the reporting, criticism and analysis of pop culture with a uniquely Jewish point of view. |
