CFPB warns of unlawful mortgage-comparison referrals An advisory opinion from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau tells consumers that online mortgage comparison sites may present themselves as unbiased while recommending only lenders who pay them for referrals. "Eliminating illegal kickback schemes fosters fair competition by forcing lenders and other providers to compete on a level playing field and leads to lower rates and higher quality service," the CFPB says.
