🌅 Good morning!

October 2024 general conference weekend for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is here! I'll be attending today's Saturday afternoon session to watch my 8-year-old niece, Lucy, sing in the general conference children's choir.

🎤 Lucy, a Swiftie, loves to perform and has a beautiful voice that she shared by singing the national anthem at a BYU men's basketball game earlier this year. She's the coolest.

🍩 The night of her performance also just so happened to be the same night as the kid who ate an entire Cougar Tail after realizing he was on camera. It was an eventful night for two iconic kids 😂.

Back to general conference.

Dana Perino tells Utah State students America will ‘get it right in the end’

Fox News anchor Dana Perino's visit to Utah State University was a homecoming of sorts.

  • She was born in Evanston, Wyoming.
  • Her dad took some classes at Utah State.
  • She got her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo.

“Part of coming here for me is not just about coming home to a physical place, but to one in which I feel like my character is rooted in this place, and it gets me back to my roots,” she said, listing the values she associates with the Mountain West — honesty, modesty, humility, strength, courage, character, bravery and individualism.

On finding her voice and speaking about her faith:

After spending a number of years as the spokesperson for former President George W. Bush, Perino said she had to find her own voice at Fox News and untangle her opinions from those of her former boss.

One of the ways she did that was by speaking freely about her faith and her relationship with God.

“It’s always surprised me how many people will come to me and say, ‘Thank you for being brave enough to talk about your faith. Thank you for being willing to talk about God and the role he plays in your life,’” she said.

The Deseret News photojournalists spanned out across the Wasatch Front looking to capture the beauty that is fall season in Utah.

What to expect from the weather this weekend:

“A weak cool front will move through Friday evening and that’ll drop temperatures back into the low 80s for the start of the weekend. High pressure lingers south and southeast of Utah, and that’ll generally keep temperatures near 83-85 degrees from Sunday through the first half of next week. Dry weather likely to continue, only adding some clouds for the beginning of next week.”
