A common affliction of entrepreneurs…

Is to extend our workdays into the evening (and our work weeks into the weekends).

When you love what you do…

“Open schedule blocks" become black holes that suck us back into work almost every time.

If there’s nothing else on your calendar there remains a vacuum… and the best way entrepreneurs feel they can fill this hole is with “doing just a little bit more” on and in the business.

I spent much of my 30’s that way…

Done for the day before dinner…

But without a wife, kids, rec hockey game, or a drinking event to keep me busy…

I spent nearly every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday working a few extra hours from 6pm to 8pm.

My calendar was missing the non-negotiables I needed to block me from becoming a “workaholic”.

Actually, I wasn’t addicted to work…

But I was addicted to results & responses.

The more I created the more feedback I would get.

It was only through Bedros-osmosis that I discovered the solution:

Non-negotiable commitments pre-built into my schedule.

So the answer to the question of “how to stop working evenings or weekends” is to…

Start living more.

Put more non-negotiable family, friend, fitness, faith, and other commitments on your calendar until you block out your work addiction.

Build your boundaries.

This is the work equivalent of an alcoholic finding Saturday evening “dry” activities to fill the calendar.

Non-negotiable commitments are the children’s bowling bumpers of the calendar world.

They prevent you from rolling a gutter ball in the game of life.

A side benefit…

You’ll quickly realize you don’t need to work as much as you do… because there’s a lot of FLUFF on your calendar that can get cut from the workday.

Start pruning, saying no, delegating, etc.

Then make sure to perfect your planning and maximize your morning magic time.

The end result?

More output with less input.

What constructive hobbies, workouts, social activities, or family adventures can you add to your weekly schedule?

If you’re constantly getting sucked into overwork give this a try.

I know you’ll be glad you did.

Success Loves Speed,

Craig
