To save your eyes from strain while you watch YouTube videos, try switching your theme to Dark: 

• Tap your profile picture/icon and go to Settings > Appearance.
• Here, you can choose from displaying YouTube with a Dark or Light theme, or you can allow YouTube to adjust the theme to your device’s default.
