Typical office workers are interrupted every three minutes and five seconds, according to researchers at the University of California, Irvine, and can take over 23 minutes to resume working on tasks. To improve productivity and time management, David Karandish recommends using your calendar, following a schedule for accountability and cutting out distractions to better immerse yourself in a task.

Hire Smart
As not all businesses are fit for remote workers, managers and hirers should look at their company and tasks to determine if a remote worker is the right fit, writes Derek Gallimore. If there are too many or too few tasks, the tasks can't be done remotely, the online tools are missing or you tend to micromanage, you might want to hold off on hiring any remote team members, suggests Gallimore.

Amazon is hosting a free Career Day on Sept. 16 that will feature 20,000 coaching sessions from 1,000 company recruiters. The company is seeking to fill 33,000 technology and corporate positions in addition to thousands of operations jobs, continuing the pandemic hiring spree that has already seen Amazon recruit 36,400 people between April and June.

The number of available jobs in the US fell away sharply in August, ending last week 20% below the same period in 2019 and adding to evidence that the labor market is c. With openings for drivers and workers in food service, hospitality and retail particularly affected, economist Nick Bunker comments, "There was an initial surge when the economy reopened but in the past few weeks those businesses may have decided they don't need to keep ramping up."

Streaming service Peacock ordered two seasons of a reboot of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," according to Will Smith, the TV series' original star. The actor added that the new version of the show will take place in a contemporary setting as a drama, rather than a comedy.
