How's Your Vision?

“I think you can't pursue justice unless you truly understand that the way you see the world is not the way the world is.”

So says Genelle Aldred, a communications consultant and former journalist, whose first book about communication and social justice will publish later this year.

In an interview with CT’s blog The Better Samaritan, Aldred emphasizes the importance of understanding that our perspectives are not always aligned with reality. She encourages Christians to acknowledge their unconscious biases and consider what they may need to change in order to pursue justice and mercy.

Whether you tend to don a pair of rose-colored glasses or view everyone as a suspect, Aldred has a word for you: you are not stuck with the lenses that you naturally wear. In communion with Christ and fellow believers, you can see the world more like God sees it, seeking first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness in light of the truth.
