| What's on Your Creativity Playlist? | Our brains are hard‑wired for music. We're naturally responsive to rhythm and rhyme, and music helps us enter a state of flow, which in turn allows us to tap into more abstract levels of thinking. In other words, music helps us be more creative. We asked around the office to find out what our co‑workers listen to when they're in a creative mood. Bead&Button Associate Editor Diane Jolie likes "Memphis and Chicago blues and Tom Waits." Show staffer Linda Kollatz is still a rock 'n roller at heart, and Show Director Sara Dumford turns to "music that surprises me with the beat or lyrics that can be dramatic or just fun, and then there is music that comforts me with its familiarity. Both put me in a place that inspires." But Jane Bremmer's answer sums it up perfectly: "I love all music! Latin Zumba music, show tunes, which I love to sing along to, easy listening/soft rock keeps me in my seat and focused, country, pop, anything!" The bottom line? There's no right or wrong music to inspire you! The music you like best is most likely to motivate your creativity. What's on your creativity playlist? |

| Meet Master Class Instructor Cynthia Rutledge | We're pleased to welcome Master Class Instructor Cynthia Rutledge back for the 2018 Show! We recently chatted with her about her work. How long have you been creating jewelry? When did it start? I have been in the business of creating beadwork for over 20 years, which is amazing unto itself! I started beading in about 1989, by accident, and really have never looked back. As with most people who love to create, I came from other media; weaving, spinning, quilting and clothing construction; where at one point all of these media were brought together to create art‑to‑wear coats, vests and jackets. But then I found beads... What has lead you to where you are today in regards to jewelry‑making? My first thought was to add beads to my garments so my goal was to learn as much as I could from whomever I could, as there weren't many ways to source out instruction in those days. This was long before Bead&Button magazine, Bead&Button Show, the plethora of beading books... |
