Good morning! We had a busy news day yesterday. Here are some of the top stories so you're all in the loop.


What Ida could do to utility bills

Hurricane Ida's fearsome Category 4 winds did a number on Southeast Louisiana's power grid, and we're going to be paying for it in our utility bills.

Entergy is asking for permission to charge its customers $5 more a month for $15 years to pay off the cost of all the repairs. This story explains how it would work and what the regulatory process to approve the charges looks like. 


Emergency food stamps system overwhelmed

Another sign of the damage Ida did: Monday was the first day to apply for emergency food stamps, and so many people called about them that the whole system crashed. State officials said they were getting 250 to 350 calls a second.

Popular rapper arrested in trail ride shooting

In August 2020, a trail ride in Roseland, a town in Tangipahoa Parish, turned into a shootout, and a woman died in the crossfire. Since then, police have arrested seven people.

The most recent suspect is a rapper who goes by "JayDaYoungan." His songs have been streamed millions of time online. You can read all about the arrest and how it fits into the shooting investiagtion in this story.
