One question I get constantly is…
“How the heck do you read so much?!”
First, I’ll be honest... there are stretches of 2-3 months at a time where I won’t read at all (especially now that I have kids).
But because I love reading... eventually I get back on track.
And with three little ones running around the house...
I’ve come up with a few creative ways to keep up my reading game.
Here’s how I still find time to fly through stacks of books on the regular: 1. I downloaded the Kindle App to my phone...
This makes it easy to read on my phone while standing in lines… waiting at doctor’s appointments, etc., rather than scrolling the gram.
A few of the titles in my Kindle app:
Your Next 5 Moves – Patrick Bet David Winning – Tim Grover The Star Principle – Richard Koch Becoming SuperNatural – Joe Dispenza
2. I don’t spend my free time doing things that a lot of my clients do…
Such as home renovations, playing golf or poker, getting my pilot’s license, or watching videos on YT.
3. I leave books EVERYWHERE...
I have multiple books in the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen, my office, the TV room, and even my home gym.
Because of that...
4. If I have 5 minutes, I’ll often pick up a book and get through 2 pages rather than scrolling my phone
5. I read fast... I’ve done speed reading books (can’t remember the names, haha), and asked a lot of other prolific readers – like Frank Den Blanken and Mark Ford – for how they read so much.
Killer tip from Frank: get the hard copy of a book AND download the audio. Then crank up the audio version to 1.5x (or 2x speed if you can handle it) and follow along at the same time with your finger on the page.
^^ The reason this works is the simultaneous auditory + visual stimulation boosts your retention of the information — EVEN when you’re consuming it at insane speeds.
6. I place a high value on reading... I enjoy it...
I’m introverted and love to “be in my own head”, and find watching videos and live presentations as painful as getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist... therefore, books are my default learning mode.
However…
That doesn’t mean books need to be YOUR default learning mode.
Bottom Line: No one is giving out medals for reading a lot of books.
Joel Marion built his online fitness business and his supplement company BioTrust from nothing to $100million per year without reading a single book in that 7-year span.
Books are neither necessary nor sufficient for getting rich, finding love, or living a great life.
However...
They most certainly can help.
Especially if reading is your preferred way of acquiring new knowledge and information.
But going to Masterminds, watching YouTube videos and documentaries, listening to Ted talks, and spending hours on coffee dates with mentors can all be just as, if not more effective.
There is no one-and-only way to get all the knowledge you need.
So don’t compare my book reading to your book reading.
Instead, focus on what matters…
Building your wealth and making time for what matters in life.

Craig
