⚖️ Another top Democrat promises to review relationship policies in the attorney general's office. ◉ A spokesperson for Talbot Ross issued a Thursday statement promising "a thorough and transparent review" of policies in Attorney General Aaron Frey's office after the top lawyer disclosed a relationship with a subordinate this week, roughly nine months after it began. ◉ That follows a similar statement from the office of Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash. Casale said while Talbot Ross has talked to Frey in the past week, he did not disclose the relationship to her before his Tuesday statement, which followed a BDN investigation of tips on the matter. ◉ Democrats have not laid out a formal path for a review of the attorney general's policies, which do not address relationships in the same way as a policy applying to supervisors and subordinates in the administration of Gov. Janet Mills. ◉ "The Office of the Attorney General must hold itself to the same high standards expected of all branches of state government," Ross spokesperson Mary Erin Casale said. 🪙 Cryptocurrency watchers are all over this pioneering Maine bill. ◉ The first cryptocurrency bill ever considered in the Maine Legislature is getting considerable buzz from the online community around digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. ◉ The proposal, from Sen. Eric Brakey, R-Auburn, would follow in Wyoming in allowing existing uninsured banks to hold virtual currency or other assets. The website Bitcoinist called it a sign of the "significant increase in the adoption of the crypto sector despite the tumultuous condition of the market." ◉ It is supported by a group of legislative Republicans, but the Maine Bankers Association opposed it at a hearing this week, saying the bill would threaten the trust between traditional banks and their customers. |
