Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Meghan McCain

Meghan McCain gave birth to her first child last night, drawing congratulations and well wishes from across the political and media spheres.

The co-host of ABC's The View and daughter to the late senator John McCain welcomed a baby girl on Monday and the news hit social media on Monday night.

On Twitter, The View announced that the baby girl has been named
Liberty Sage McCain Domenech, and that she and her mother are both doing well.

The 35-year-old mom has been careful with her privacy throughout the pregnancy, announcing back in May that she would not be sharing details online or with the public. "" know this is an unorthodox choice for a talk show host who is on tv five days a week - but I’ve always lived by the beat of my own drum," she said at the time. "I believe children have a right to privacy and hope you will all understand as we navigate this as much as possible going forward without sacrificing our comfort or safety."

On Tuesday, McCain’s colleagues on The View opened the show by celebrating the news and offering congratulations to their co-host. This came after numerous prominent individuals offered McCain a hearty congrats online.

From left, right, and the press in general, the congrats have poured in, and we at Mediaite add our own.

MEDIA LOSER:
Mollie Hemingway

The Federalist senior editor and Fox News regular Mollie Hemingway shrugged off a new report detailing President Donald Trump's tax avoidance, essentially arguing that every American tries to exploit the system in the same manner in which Trump is being accused.

Hemingway joined Fox's Outnumbered panel on Monday, where the conversation touched on The New York Times' report that Trump only paid $750 in federal income taxes for the years of 2016 and 2017.

"All of these things he's doing are things that probably all of us do, that most people do when they are filing their taxes," said Hemingway in commenting on the merits of the story as well as the specific regarding Trump's taxes. "I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be news."

Despite her commentary on taxes and loans as a member of the media speaking on a news and talk show on a cable news network, Hemingway had nothing but sarcasm on her Twitter account for members of the media commenting on taxes and loans on news and talk programs.

"Honestly just feel blessed to follow so many journalists on Twitter who are tax and loan experts. Didn't realize that they had this particular expertise before tonight as I'd never heard them discuss a word of it before, which makes it all the more impressive," she wrote.

Uncomfortable

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani flatly claimed on Fox & Friends this morning that Joe Biden has dementia. Just said it like it was true. And it made for some awkward and uncomfortable TV time with the hosts.

Pressuring the CDC

According to a new report, multiple White House staffers spent this summer pressuring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to relax its recommendations about restarting schools in the fall and succeeded in getting several key documents and communications edited, because Trump wanted schools reopened before the election to help his chances.

Prison Century

Recent prison attendee and former Trump fixer and personal attorney Michael Cohen told CNN's Alisyn Camerota interviewed that Trump "may end up doing the next century" in prison over tax evasion.

Hustlers

President Trump privately shared disdain for both religious leaders and the evangelicals who support him, a new report claims. “They’re all hustlers,” Trump reportedly said of the faith leaders. And a lot worse.

His Own Mouth

Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward defended his decision to pronounce Donald Trump "unfit" to be president of the United States, in a new interview with Axios.

“The evidence is overwhelming out of his own mouth,” said Woodward. “He failed to protect the people. "

10-Point Lead

A new poll of Pennsylvania voters shows Democratic presidential nominee Biden with a 10 point lead over President Trump on the eve of the first debate.

Flu-thers in Power

On Tuesday morning, Olivia Troye — a former aide to Vice President Mike Pence and a key source for the report on the White House pressuring the CDC — sounded an even broader and more urgent alarm about the administration’s overall handling of Covid-19.

Appearing on CNN’s New Day, Troye confirmed that she saw the White House play with the numbers to paint a rosier picture on Covid-19.

“What I saw firsthand was a lot of the manipulation of the data,” Troye told CNN’s John Berman. “Trying to figure out how to tell a story that was less grim than the reality really was.”

But even worse, there still remains a hoax mentality in the administration.

"I think there are still people walking around the White House today who don't actually believe this virus is real," she said in the truly disturbing interview. "A lot of them disregard it."

Must See Clip

Body Cam Video

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has released body cam footage from their encounter with President Donald Trump’s campaign official Brad Parscale.

Police were called to the Parscale residence on Sunday after Candice Parscale, Brad’s wife, reported that her husband armed himself, barricaded himself inside their home, and was expressing threats of self-harm.

The cam footage was released amid intense media scrutiny over the incident.
