What's the price of flood control?
By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor Homeowners near the Big Shake dirt pit are worried about the impact a new levee will have on them. The pit would supply high-quality clay for a St. John the Baptist and St. Charles parish levee. Those near the supply pit fear that holes left behind will fill with water and become homes to snakes and alligators. Forecasters eye two storm systems in Atlantic, and one appears headed to the Caribbean. Both of the clusters could develop into tropical depressions at some point this week. A body found hanging in a tree is believed to be that of a missing inmate. The work-release inmate walked off his post in September. The death is believed to be a suicide. |
