The pit would supply high-quality clay for a St. John the Baptist and St. Charles parish levee. Those near the supply pit fear that holes left behind will fill with water and become homes to snakes and alligators.
Forecasters eye two storm systems in Atlantic, and one appears headed to the Caribbean. Both of the clusters could develop into tropical depressions at some point this week.
