Making Loose Leaf Tea

By attosa

Making Loose Leaf Tea - clear tea cup of herbal tea with sprig next to saucerI adore loose leaf tea. Most of the relaxation teas I drink at night, my family and I grow and make from scratch. This way, we handle what's going in it, and save tons of money. Here, we've made a big batch of tea leaves from a lemon verbena plant.

Using Bird Feeders for Houseplants

By Donna

Using Bird Feeders for Houseplants I picked up two inexpensive wooden bird feeders that were actually a little broken in a local department store for $1 each. I decided to use them inside my house to hold some hanging plants. I bring in a number of herbs for the winter and so window and plant space becomes an issue for me in the winter.

Line Small Flower Beds With Concrete Mixing Tubs

By likekinds

mixing tubs with drainage holesBermuda migrates towards wetter soil. If flower beds are kept wetter than the surrounding lawn, Bermuda will easily invade them. Using sunken concrete mixing tubs as liners for beds can prevent this migration, underground. Keeping above ground migration at bay is much easier.

Use Tape to Remove Bugs from Plants

By anne

Bugs stuck to tape.If you notice bugs on your plants, get as many off as you can using regular cellophane (Scotch) tape before treating with bug spray. Works like a charm!

Repurposed Plastic Buckets as Garden Planters
I used plastic cat litter buckets in my garden. My small raised bed is not deep or big enough to grow tomatoes. I drilled a few drain holes along the bottom, plus used a circular saw bit and cut a large 4" hole in the middle. I raised the soil depth and allowed the roots to extend out the bottom into the raised bed soil.
Use Coffee Filters To Dry Seeds
Line dinner plates with coffee filters to dry flower and garden seeds. When the seeds are dry, discard the coffee filters and store the seeds in a container lined with coffee filters.

Fat Separator For Watering House Plants
The fat separator I use has a long spout which I have found handy and useful to water my house plants. I really appreciate double duty gadgets.
Use Your Leaves As Winter Mulch
After spending years raking up those fall leaves, I decided to make short work of the job by using my mulch mower and ran the mower over the leaves, which mulched them all and enriched my lawn happily at the same time.

This Week's Questions
Shifter Stuck on Murray 40 Inch Mower
I have a Murray 40 inch mower 40507x8c. The shifter is very difficult to move. It will move, but only by applying a lot of force, which I fear will cause further damage. I am thinking low on gear grease or fluid. I cannot afford a new transaxle or a new mower, but with my automotive knowledge I should be able to repair it.

Getting Rid of Stink Bugs
I don't know how the tradition started, but the Chinese seem to have years for just about any animal. And too, I don't know if these years are extended to other life forms such as insects. Anybody up to snuff on this subject? I am however overrun with stink bugs and would like to get rid of them.
