The Cantrell administration's push to eradicate homelessness in New Orleans is taking its first major step, closing the area under the Pontchartrain Expressway near Tchoupitoulas Street, one of the city's largest encampments. It's the first time an area will be fenced off and patrolled to prevent people from returning. Sophie Kasakove has the story. Last year, private-equity-backed brewery operator Made by the Water announced it was buying a stake in Faubourg Brewing Co. from Saints owner Gayle Benson and would turn the former Dixie Brewery in New Orleans East into a regional beer-making powerhouse. On Tuesday, it announced that it will be scrapping those plans. What happened, and how will it affect the local brew? Stephanie Riegel and Ian McNulty have the details. Jefferson Parish residents will see their utility bills go up in January, the third year in a row rates are being raised.
