A housebuilder has warned that the housing market "could have the rug pulled from under it" when the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme is reformed in 2021. Because developers price the equity loans into the cost of new homes, when the scheme ends there is a risk that house prices will be too high for many to afford, which could lead to sudden price falls. Towns and cities in the North East are most reliant on the scheme, but Help to Buy shores up new home sales across the country. Telegraph Money reporter and millennial Marianna Hunt is still on a mission to invest her way onto the property ladder. This week she looks into the value of a Lifetime Isa (or “Lisa”) which is designed to help those between 18 and 39 save for their first home or for retirement. If you have a question for Marianna about her investing journey, email [email protected] and she'll answer them this Friday. Keep an eye on telegraph.co.uk/money for the Q&A. Like what you see? Joss Wynne Evans said about Beware the car rental firms charging seven times more for insurance: "I'm not a fan of regulation, but car rental business internationally is heaving with what most people would recognise as criminal, fraudulent and misleading practices. It really is a case of reading the small print every time and having eyes in the back of your head." Tom Scooby Doo said about Inside the 'subscription service for scammers' where fraudsters buy off-the-shelf Airbnb cons: "I dont use Airnb because it's open to fraud. There is limited protection as Airbnb matches landlords with tenants, it is not Airbnb's responsibility if there is fraud committed whilst at the property as long as you get to stay there. Anyone who does shouldn't complain afterwards..." Canute Turner said about 'Did Amazon add items to my shopping basket?': "I also dislike Amazon's insistence on storing your card details, obviously this makes it easier for you to buy things on impulse, which is unscrupulous, but it also leaves you vulnerable to fraud. Personally I am happy to spend 30 seconds entering my card details if it means they are not available to hackers." |
