Friday 2 May 2025 A weekly round-up of the latest news and information about courts and tribunals | | In the coming weeks, courtrooms and tribunals in England and Wales will start using a new phrase, âAll rise, if able,â replacing the traditional âAll riseâ used when a judge or magistrate enters or leaves the courtroom. The change ensures that everyone can access and take part in court proceedings, helping to create a more inclusive and accessible justice system for all. | | A new two-storey entrance to Crewe Magistrates, Civil and Family Courts has been completed as part of a wider project to regenerate part of Crewe town centre. The revamped area was opened to the public this week. | | Our teams recently completed two impactful beach clean operations at Seaham Hall and Scarborough South Bay. Working alongside our partners at Equans, colleagues collected over 500 items of waste, filling more than four large bin bags. These environmental initiatives represent our ongoing commitment to protecting and preserving our coastal areas. | | Earlier this year, we hosted a speed mooting competition for law students from the University of Reading. The competition, now in its second year, has evolved from its university-based beginnings to being hosted in the magistrates' court. Our Senior Legal Manager blogs about her experience supporting the competition and how it showcases the career pathways and supports students in developing the essential skills needed. | | Ever wondered what happens inside a courtroom? Join us at Bradford Combined Court on Saturday 10 May 2025 from 10am to 4pm for an interactive open day. Visitors will be able to experience mock trials in action, police equipment demonstrations, conversations with justice system professionals and much more. | | We are currently developing its own in-house technology to support the delivery of Section 28 of the Youth and Criminal Justice Act pre-recorded evidence special measure, including a new portal for advocates and judiciary to access the recordings of the cases. The new technology, known simply as âPREâ, will soon be launched in every Crown Court in England and Wales and the High Court. We are holding an interactive webinar on Thursday 15 May 2025 where advocates can learn more about the technology used to access recordings. | | What did you think of this email? | | |
