This woman is such a bright light - and hustles like a boss. Sara Blakely is the founder of SPANX. (If you don't know what SPANX are, ask any woman in your life to educate you). Her woman's hosiery company has revolutionized the fashion industry (and women's wardrobes she tells me). It's also valued at over a billion dollars. And HER answer to that question really resonated with me. She told me, "Money just makes you more of who you already were." (FF to time stamp 44:45 on the podcast for more on this specific topic). But Sara didn't make her first pair of Spanx because she was a skilled seamstress. No - she was a door to door fax machine saleswoman in Florida. And it took her two years of relentlessly asking manufacturers to give her a chance before she got her first prototype made. She also had to write her own patent. And go to Neiman Marcus headquarters herself to get them in stores. When I asked her how she got the guts to do all this she told me she didn't know any better - she literally had no idea what she was getting into. So she didn't let the usual barriers of the fashion industry stop her. AMAZING. Fast forward 18 years and she is an entrepreneurial icon, billionaire, wife, and mom of 4 young kids. It's clear to me that Sara has always been this bright, hard-working, and kind. But she also TOOK ACTION on her idea and saw it through no matter what. That's the game changer friends. |
