HIVinfo Releases New HIV and COVID-19 Fact Sheet A new consumer fact sheet about HIV and COVID-19 is now available on HIVinfo.nih.gov. COVID-19 is caused by a virus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Anyone can get infected with SARS-CoV-2, but people with HIV may have an underlying condition or a comorbidity that can make them severely sick if they become infected with SARS-CoV-2. Comorbidity means more than one disease or condition is present at the same time. This fact sheet provides important information about how COVID-19 affects people with HIV, how people with HIV can protect themselves and others from infection with COVID-19, the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for people with HIV, and potential drug-drug interactions between HIV medicines and COVID-19 treatment. Visit the Understanding HIV section of the HIVinfo website to browse the complete collection of HIVinfo’s consumer education materials, including fact sheets, infographics, and an HIV glossary. The fact sheets are also available in Spanish. |
