His flight was intercepted by a Belarusian fighter jet. Why does the state want him?

Roman Protasevich was virtually unknown outside of Belarus, until he made international headlines on Sunday when his passenger plane was diverted by a fighter jet and forced to land in Minsk. The incident has put the spotlight firmly back on the Eastern European country where Protasevich has had a leading role in protests against President Alexander Lukashenko — often referred to as “Europe’s last dictator.”
