Hi,
This is my FAVORITE time of the year. Do you know why?
It's not because I love sugar cookies (because I do).
It's not because I love sappy holiday movies like It's a Wonderful Life and Die Hard.
(Die Hard does count as a sappy holiday movie, right? What do you think?) |
It's not because I'm a sucker for staring at holiday lights while I sip hot cocoa with whipped cream and cozying up in front of a warm fire (guilty on all counts).
This is my FAVORITE time of the year because it's when we're all reminded of the most important gift of all: the gift of helping others!
You see, I believe that we're all connected in a fundamental way that defies all logic. It's a never-ending chain of cause-and-effect that ripples out from us and back again and is undiminished by time or distance.
Once you're aware of this fundamental force, it changes how you look at the world around you. It no longer becomes about "me" versus "them." It suddenly becomes about us.
An artist once thanked me for my generosity in helping her figure out how to market and sell her art. Then she asked me a question. She wanted to know why I had so freely given my time to help her.
She was surprised when I said, "You've got it all backwards. I want to thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to help you!"
You see, whenever I help someone it's like I'm standing on the edge of a dark shore. Every so often I write a message of hope, place it in a bottle, and toss it out to sea.
|
Many of the bottles never reach their destination, but some do.
Some of those messages get read and it kindles a small spark of hope in the person reading it.
Some of those sparks fan into flames that spread like wildfire, casting the cold night sky in warm and welcoming shades of crimson that make the world a better place.
And always that gorgeous firelight finds its way back to me, where it warms my cheeks and rekindles the fires of hope in my own heart.
So please believe me when I say THANK YOU for allowing me to connect with you in this way. It's truly the most wonderful gift I could ever ask for and I am incredibly grateful to you for it.
I also hope that my messages have helped spark the fires of hope in your heart this holiday season. And that your spark blooms into a gorgeous wildfire that warms you and your loved ones long into the New Year!
Regards,
