Hemmings Find of the Day - 1958 GAZ M21 Volga
Posted by Daniel Strohl - Getting this 1958 GAZ M21 Volga for sale on Hemmings.com home might be a little tougher than just scheduling a pickup with a transporter, and there might be a little more paperwork to go with its purchase than with most collector cars but, hey, not only has it been restored - not an easy task, especially for those of us on this side of the pond - but it's been restored well, judging from the pictures. From the seller's description: Completely restored with new chrome, full original , absolutely all new parts from S...Read More

Automotive publisher Chet Krause dies at 92

Automotive publisher Chet Krause dies at 92
Posted by Jim Donnelly - Chet Krause at Iola in 2013. Photo courtesy John Gunnell. Chet Krause spent his entire life in Iola, Wisconsin, where he got his start tearing down Ford Model Ts for salable parts. He bootstrapped those experiences into a long line of books and magazines aimed at hobbyists, mainly of the automotive variety. Krause died Saturday in Iola, having suffered from worsening congestive heart failure, at the age of 92. He left a literary legacy that will endure forever. It began in 1952 when Krause began publishing a m...Read More

Midweek Matinee: Knights on the Highway, 1938
Posted by Ed Heys - All photos are frame grabs from video below. With a sleep-inducing introduction awkwardly read from cue cards by Murray, then-president of the American Road Builders' Association, we wonder if the Jam Handy film crew might have scheduled this particular gem after hours. Way after. Even the good dispatcher looks as if he's nodding off, though an alert Trucker Joe seems to have his wits about him. Motoring out of the terminal in his gleaming new Chevy rig, Joe knows his stuff and strictly adhe...Read More

America's Most Individual Car: 1958 Ford Thunderbird brochure

America's Most Individual Car: 1958 Ford Thunderbird brochure
Posted by Mark J. McCourt - Images are from the brochure collection of Hemmings Motor News Ford secured the Thunderbird's future for decades to come when it debuted the second generation in 1958. This small, six-panel fold-out brochure is dated "1/58" and exclusively highlights the new fixed-roof Hardtop model, rather than showing both that and the traditional Convertible; the 1958 Hardtop would eventually outsell the contemporary Convertible by a large margin, moving 35,758 units to the Convertible's 2,134, with these four-seaters' combine...Read More

Ferndale, Michigan, 1950s

Ferndale, Michigan, 1950s
Posted by Daniel Strohl - According to captions that follow this photo around the Internet, we're in Ferndale - specifically just west of the intersection of Nine Mile and Woodward - sometime during the Fifties. And if we check out the modern-day street view of the location, we can surmise that the photo was taken from the top of what is now the Ferndale Arts Building. But that's all pretty dry - we need some stories and some color to go along with the scene. So tell us what you see here?...Read More
