The 2018 National Defense Strategy outlined the US military's dangerous plans for the future, the shift away from counterterrorism in the Middle East and North Africa towards so-called "great power competition" with China and Russia.
And while the terror wars continue, the shift to great power competition is clear. When President Biden requested a record-high military budget of $753 billion for 2022, the Pentagon cited China as the top "threat" to justify the exorbitant amount of spending.
The Biden administration is standing behind Ukraine, emboldening Kiev in its dispute with Moscow by sending weapons and vowing "unwavering" support. On top of the Ukraine tensions, the US is sanctioning Russian officials and expelling diplomats.
It seems that not a day goes by without the US escalating tensions with Moscow or Beijing. And while a conflict with two nuclear powers should be unthinkable, the mainstream media are egging on the new Cold War, trying to convince us that Russia is preparing to invade eastern Europe and that China is an existential threat.
Here at Antiwar.com, we are dedicated to providing you sober and clear news and analysis of the new Cold Wars. Whether it's US warships sailing through the South China Sea, or US spy planes flying over the Black Sea, we cover it all. But we cannot do this without your support!
Help us keep an eye on these dangerous escalations.
