Your support can bring a poetry workshop to incarcerated youth... “….because we get to witness [our students] as artists, we’ve been with them as they find understanding inside their poems.” Katey Funderburgh & Nicholas Ritter Poetry Alive! Teaching Artists |

Poetry Alive! brings poetry to youth in Northern Virginia who are detained or displaced. Katey and Nicholas, teachers for this Poetry Daily program, have written about their experiences in March 24th's iteration of our newsletter column, What Sparks Poetry. Poetry Alive! serves about 24 teens each year in two locations and is financed through Arts Fairfax, the Virginia Department of Education, and donations from Poetry Daily readers. Thank you to all who in the past have supported this worthwhile educational program. Program costs include small stipends for graduate student teachers and a visiting poet, as well as about $500/year in writing supplies, books, and other materials. Would you help us bring poetry to more students? If 100 people donate $20 each, that's $2000 that will ensure the program can grow. But a gift in any amount—even $5—will make an enormous difference. Make a gift here. Thank you for your continuing support. |
