Starting today, tens of millions of American families â including the families of 779,000 Oregon children â will get the first of their automatic monthly Child Tax Credit payments thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats across the country.
The Expanded Child Tax Credits are part of the American Rescue Plan that passed earlier this year. The Credits are poised to cut child poverty in half, including lifting 40,000 Oregon children out of poverty â yet every single Republican in Congress voted against them.
Here's what it means for you: In 2021, for most families, the annual Child Tax Credit is increased to $3,000 for each child between 6 and 17 years old, and to $3,600 for each child under age 6.
In most cases, if youâre eligible and have filed tax returns for 2019 or 2020, or if you signed up to receive a stimulus check from the IRS, you'll get the Child Tax Credit payments automatically deposited into your bank account (or delivered to you by mail) around the 15th of each month.
The expanded Child Tax Credit included in the American Rescue Plan is only for the rest of 2021, but President Biden and Democrats are pushing to extend the Credit for years to come. And these tax cuts are further proof that President Biden and Democrats are delivering for ALL working families.
