Good evening The last few weeks have given us all pause for thought. From being wrapped up in our individual busy lives, we have all been forced to change the way we live and work. And rather than crumbling, this period of adversity has actually inspired many of us to be better people. We have all taken more time and effort to keep in touch with friends and family; we have done some wonderful acts of generosity and kindness for strangers; and we have even contributed to the health of the planet by leaving our cars in the garage and taking to two wheels. So it is with sadness that we have had to report some of the incidents we have seen across the county in the past week. The rubbish left in our parks and on our beaches has been depressing to see but the most horrifying incident involved those completely selfish people who took portable barbeques onto moorland which has gone up like a tinderbox. Not only is it destroying the natural habitat, it is tying up fire crews for days at a time. Have we learned absolutely nothing from our enforced period of lockdown? Gillian This month we will be saying a Big Thank You to those who have made a difference during the coronavirus pandemic. As this week is Volunteers Week we think it’s fitting to start off by showing our appreciation for the contribution made by volunteers across Lancashire during this time. Please share with us photos of any unsung volunteering heroes you know including their names and details about how they have contributed during this crisis. We’ll publish these photos online and in a special Big Thank You supplement in the newspaper. Email [email protected] marking the subject field Big Thank You.
