JP Delaney's The Girl Before is one of two starred fiction titles this week. "This haunting Big Brother–esque novel will consume psychological thriller enthusiasts and keep them thinking long after the final page. Fans of Paula Hawkins’s The Girl on the Train should add it to their winter reading lists." In nonfiction, Heather Ann Thompson's Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy is also one of two starred titles. "A must for anyone involved in the criminal justice system; also for the general reader interested in prisons with a lot of time on their hands." In graphic novels, "veteran fans of Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon time/identity switches will enjoy leveling up to" Moto Hagio's Otherworld Barbara, Vol. 1, a "more complex and more adult plot puzzle, which has won awards in Japan. Fine for teens but probably most satisfying for older readers." And in e-originals, Winter Austin's Sins of the Father, book three of the "McIntire County" series, "provides plenty of intrigue and suspense to keep the pages moving at a fast clip.... Readers should address this series in order, as there is a good deal of backstory."
