I truly cherish the times I got to see driving greats like Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher from trackside â and I must put Lewis Hamilton in that bracket also. I was fortunate enough to watch him from his Formula Renault days, right through F3 and GP2 and into F1 â and was truly blessed (to borrow a word from his vernacular) to see him make a flying dismount celebration from the roof of a Renault Espace after his amazing victory in Monaco in 2008. Only about 10 other people were there to witness that! To see him deliver on all that promise has been awesome, and now heâs matched Schumacher in the all-time F1 wins chart â what an amazing achievement. Who knows how many more he will achieve before deciding to hang up his helmet? I truly believe we have some epic races ahead, as someone â I assume either Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc â steps forward to challenge him, just like Fernando Alonso did to Michael. And how many wins might they go on to achieve? Itâs what makes our sport so compelling. Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com |
