Once in a great while, if you're lucky, you get to see a performance like Haleigh Bryant had Friday night. In LSU's final home meet of the season, Bryant save her best for last. The very best. She recorded perfect 10s in vault, uneven bars and on floor, becoming LSU's first gymnast to pull off such a feat and the Tigers' all-time leader with 10 career perfect 10s. Oh, and her 39.875 to win the all-around title tied for the best score in program history and equaled the best score in the nation going into the weekend. “To get three 10s in one meet, that’s insane,” LSU coach Jay Clark said. “She’s an all-timer, y’all. You’re witnessing absolute greatness." By the way, LSU beat West Virginia to win the meet going away with the season's second-best score, 198.025-196.450, sending the Tigers into the postseason on one heck of a roll. While you're reading, check out our Michael Johnson's photo gallery from the meet. Bryant wasn't the only LSU athlete, ahem, knocking it out of the park Friday. Across campus at Alex Box Stadium, freshman Jared Jones had two home runs and just missed a third. Pitcher Paul Skenes dealt more filthy stuff and the Tigers run-ruled another victim, er, opponent, topping Samford 11-1 in a seven-inning game shortened by the mercy rule. Check out the details on Saturday's game between LSU and Samford. And while you're at it, enjoy Leah Vann's heartwarming story about a surprise reward for a veteran soldier and her other story about Skenes describing his pitching repertoire. The men's basketball team saw its season come to a (merciful?) end Thursday night with a 77-68 SEC Tournament loss to Vanderbilt, which went on to shock Kentucky again in Friday's quarterfinals. Our Sheldon Mickles writes about how the Tigers' mostly disappointing 14-19 season came to an end. LSU softball, which rather quietly has gotten off to a 20-1 start, opens SEC play this weekend at South Carolina. And check out this dispatch about women's track star Favour Ofili, who lit it up Friday night at the NCAA indoor championships. What a night. Thanks for reading and subscribing, and keep up with us in The Advocate and The Times-Picayune as well as on TheAdvocate.com and Nola.com as we follow the Tigers through the rest of the weekend. Remember to set clocks ahead Saturday night and watch out for the LSU women's basketball team's NCAA Tournament assignment during the selection show at 7 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.
