EDITED OUT: When an architectural historian handed in her report on the controversial Greenfield grain terminal proposal at Wallace, it asserted the project would have “an adverse effect on historic properties,” said the entire area should be listed in the National Register of Historic Places and suggested there might be graves of enslaved people on the site. But when her employer submitted the report to Louisiana regulators, all that was gone; the submitted report concluded that “the project would not result in an adverse effect.” The rewrite came after Greenfield’s contractor on the permitting process warned the historian’s employer it would lose its contract were her conclusions to remain in the report. OUT TO EAT: The family that introduced New Orleans to contemporary Indian cuisine at Saffron NOLA has a second restaurant project underway. It will be just a stone’s throw from Saffron NOLA, but a world apart in concept. Farther upriver, meanwhile, a new brewpub is under development at the end of Oak Street, in the former home of the restaurant Cowbell. GUNFIRE AT GRADUATION: Police say a street gang dispute might be to blame for gunfire that broke out in a crowd of students, parents and teachers after Hammond High School’s graduation ceremony. Three people were wounded, a fourth was injured trying to escape and one person was arrested. Welcome to the weekend. Check out NOLA.com for more news throughout the day. D.B. |
